A massive congratulations
to all the under 12's on becoming the Dorset and Wilts County Champions.
After the success of being runners up in the Bournemouth shield then the
gutsy performance at the Land Rover Tournament against some great opposition
you have now proved what a great squad you are. Three brilliant games
saw you come out on top and you all deserve a massive pat on the back.
Enjoy this weekend at our own tournament knowing that you are County Champions.
Well done from
all the coaches and parents.

Dorset County Cup Festival
A cold grey overcast day welcomed the teams to Sherborne for the County Cup Festival with teams from all over Dorset taking part. The format for this year's tournament differed slightly from last year. As before there were two pools but unlike last year the winner from pool one would play the runner up from pool two and visa versa this would then decide who went forward from Dorset to represent the county in the Dorset and Wilts finals to be held in April. The draw was made and Wimborne were drawn in the same pool as Dorchester, Blandford and Weymouth Barbarians and the home team Sherborne.
Sherborne 5 v 10
Wimborne
First up Sherborne in what turned out to be a tough encounter. Both sets
of forwards trading early encounters but both sides were guilty of early
handling errors, eventually the break through came and Wimborne burst
through to score the first try a few minutes before half time. Half time
saw a couple of changes made in the Wimborne back row but now Sherborne
were beginning to build the pressure up and this was rewarded with a try
mid way through the second half. Wimborne continued to press for the winner
but the Sherborne defence stood firm until the dying seconds when Wimborne
found space down the left side and secured a second try with the last
play of the game.
Dorchester 0 v
0 Wimborne
Another tough game for Wimborne against a much improved Dorchester side.
Both teams toiled to find the breakthrough but again both sets of forwards
cancelled each other out with some great rucks, mauls and scrums and the
half ended scoreless. Wimborne made changes again at half time showing
the strength in depth the squad now has. Again both teams tried to get
a breakthrough but with some great defending by both teams the final whistle
went with the game ending scoreless.
Weymouth/Blandford
0 v 30 Wimborne
After a break in the proceedings next up for Wimborne was Weymouth/Blandford
in a game they had to win. This was the game that the backs sprung into
life. The forwards continued to win ball at the breakdown and as they
got the ball out to the backs there was time and space for them to convert
their moves into trys. The first half saw Wimborne take a 20 point lead
over their opposition and all the points being scored by what was now
a fully functional back line showing all what they are capable off. The
second half saw Wimborne carry on from where they left of and within a
couple of minutes of the half two more trys had been scored bringing a
premature end to the game. With Sherborne and Dorchester drawing their
game this win for Wimborne saw them top the group. The Winners of the
other group saw Swanage just pip Bournemouth to the top spot. The semi
finals would be Wimborne v Bournemouth and Swanage v Dorchester.
Bournemouth 0 v
20 Wimborne
Bournemouth came away from a hard fought game against Swanage where they
just missed out of top spot. Wimborne started well with the forwards again
proving their worth and the backs were now really turning it on and it
was not long before the first try was scored another was added before
half time and the teams went in with Wimborne leading 10 points to nil.
Wimborne did not make any changes for the second half and continued to
pile the pressure on Bournemouth who defended well but could not hold
out and again Wimborne added two quick trys and when the final whistle
went Wimborne were victories by 20 points.
Results in the other semi final saw Swanage defeat Dorchester. This meant that for the second year running both Wimborne and Swanage were going forward to represent Dorset at the Dorset and Wilts finals day. Well done to all the players who took part and to those who came along to support this just goes to show what a great squad we have at Wimborne. Every place in the team is up for grabs over the next few weeks as we head towards the business end of the season and remember "it's easier to win your shirt than to keep it"
Well done to the squad
lets look forward to more success in the future

to keep a place in our team than win it so work hard and enjoy yourselves.
To all those who did not make the cut please keep playing as well as you
are. Everyone has made huge improvements this season and we are only halfway
through.
