Training session by Wasps' professional Mark Robinson
Following on from the visit last November from London Wasps hooker, Joe
Ward, the under 14s again enjoyed professional input when his colleague
former All Black scrum half Mark 'Sharky' Robinson came to the
Club to lead a training session.
After running a warm-up session including 1 v 1, 2 v 2 and 3 v 3, Sharky
taught the squad some moves from the line-out and the base of the scrum.
We cannot reveal the details of the moves here in case our future opponents
check this website but if you hear a 'Wasps' call on a Sunday morning
you will recognise where it came from.
After the session
Sharky joined the boys in the clubhouse for a photocall which raised £24
for tour funds.
This was a great evening for all concerned and we learnt a lot. A big
thank you from us all to Sharky for giving up the time to give us the
benefit of his knowledge and experience, to Lee Bate for arranging it
and to the senior club for allowing us space on a Thursday night.
The momentum generated undoubtedly contributed to the convincing 31 -
15 victory over Swans in the County Cup semi-final on Sunday.
Sunday 20th December
Wimborne U14 v Havant (A) -
Thanks to those who braved the weather and trained on Wednesday evening. The selected squad for Sunday is.
KIT AQUILINA JORDIE BATES AARON BELLIS DOUG COLLINS LEE CUTLER JAMES DODDS JACK FINN CONOR FRANCIS ANDREW GOODWORTH JAMIE HEARNE DAN HUMPHRIES DAVID KING BAZ MELLA JAMES MILLER ROBERT MOORE LUKE NORTHBROOKE DECLAN QUINN SEB RODRIGUES MORGAN ROSE HARVEY SNAPE PIERS STORY HARRY THISTLEWAITE PADDY THORNE
Please make a big
effort to be there if you have been listed. I know Havant is a longish
journey but at least it is well placed for a visit to Gunwharf Quays in
Portsmouth or West Quay in Southampton on the way back if you fancy a
bit of last minute Christmas shopping!
Havant is a well run club and it is important that we are also well organised
so please reply by email to nick@sportingfocus.co.uk or text 07795 513795
if you are on the list so we have confirmation that you have got the information
and are coming.
If you are not on the list and would like to play please email and we will see what we can do.
Arrangements: Meet at 9.45 at Havant RFC (directions available on their website) Let us know if you need a lift. (We already know about Morgan but is there anybody else?)
Assume the match is
ON unless you hear otherwise. If the weather is bad and the game is called
off, a message will appear on the home page of www.sportingfocus.co.uk
(and on WRFC club website if there is sufficient notice) and text anybody
who provides a mobile number when they reply to this email.
Please remember to either reply by email to nick@sportingfocus.co.uk or
text 07795 513795 to confirm that you have got this information and are
coming.

Lytchett Minster - Wimborne
The Under 14s had
been scheduled to play a floodlit pre-Christmas match against Lytchett
on Friday but unfortunately the pitch was flooded with water instead of
light and so the game had to be called off.
With edible contributions from the Wimborne parents, Lytchett had laid
on some post-match entertainment which still went ahead. Denied the opportunity
to dominate on the pitch the Wimborne boys showed their competitive edge
winning both the 'boat race' and the cream-cracker eating contest but
sadly and surprisingly the adults lagged behind when it came to a gateau
eating race.
An enjoyable evening that reinforced that there is so much more to being
part of a rugby club than what goes on the pitch.
Many thanks to Lytchett for their great hospitality.
Training this Wednesday
13th December is at FERNDOWN LEISURE CENTRE from 7pm to 8pm.
The squad for Sunday's match at HAVANT will be decided after training
and sent out by email early on Thursday.
Sunday 6th December

North Dorset 49 - 7 Wimborne
Threatening grey skies and gale-force winds whipping across the exposed playing fields created a dramatic setting to this keenly awaited fixture. Even toupees with Velcro would have come unstuck here.
The opening minutes saw Bath creating space through deft passing in their back line, making early breaks into Wimborne territory. Their forwards also put on a strong rolling maul pushing Wimborne back close to their line but good discipline prevailed and Bath were eventually penalised just when they looked like a breaking through. Wimborne sensibly kept ball to hand rather than throwing caution to the wind and made effective drives back up the field. Both teams adopted this tack with good effect. When the whistle blew for half time the score was still 0-0 and both sides had given their all.
The second half opened
with renewed determination. After ten minutes of close quarter skirmishing
the Wimborne pack eventually ground their way deep into Bath territory
enabling Jack Finn to break away to score a well earned try. Shortly afterwards
Bath took the attack back to Wimborne replying with a neatly worked try
from their kick-off.
With the scores now level both teams were keenly scenting victory and
the game took on a new level of intensity.
Meanwhile no toupees were to be seen despite the continued efforts of
the hurricane.
The next try came
from a move from within Wimborne's 22 instigated by a bursting run from
Dan Humphries who, having kicked ahead, then managed to charge down a
clearance kick to score.
Bath showed great character and created several counter attacks in the
closing minutes. However Dan H again managed to breakaway from inside
his own half for another try.
Great game and huge
credit to both teams for displaying such excellent sportsmanship.
In the second half
we kept Swans pegged into their own half for most of the game. Jack Finn
burst through for a well earned forward's try followed by Connor Francis
from a rolling maul. Paddy Thorne then put one over on the right wing.
Finally Declan Quinn scored from close on Swans line with a dummy pass
to seal a convincing victory for Wimborne.
Result ; Swans 5 - 36 Wimborne
Clearly a rallying
team talk during half time galvanised Wimborne into raising their game
resulting in four tries in relatively quick succession in the second half.
Lytchett fought hard but were unable to create many scoring opportunities.
Try scorers for Wimborne were Aaron Bellis x 2 , Dominic Heatley and Charlie
Dustan. Two tries were converted.
Result : Lytchett 5 - 29 Wimborne
This was our first game of the season and it was a fine, sunny morning. We fielded a squad of eighteen. Unfortunately Blandford were under strength and so a couple of our boys gamely pulled on the Blandford shirt. The first half started promisingly with Morgan Rose putting over the first try of the season. Another try soon followed after Kit Aquilina drove through from a rolling maul. Dan Humphries then ran through a third try from just inside his own half.
The second half saw
Wimborne maintain their resolve with Morgan Rose putting away a second
try. It was then the turn of Seb Rodruigez to score the next try - his
debut game for the club. Blandford did manage to score a try in the second
half but they were feeling the pressure due to a weakened squad.
Result : Blandford 7 - 36 Wimborne
